AYUR literally means “life” and VEDA the “science of knowledge”
|
Ayurveda treatment and medicines, which normally include massage, and often a special diet, is a 3000 year old holistic medical system, used widely within India. Ayurvedic clinics and massage centres are now to be found in many places, particularly in holiday destinations. Areas
such as Kerala, have now become well known for Ayurvedic
treatment. The treatment can often be incorporated as an additional
option with a holiday booking or arranged independently. Many
hotels now have excellent Ayurvedic centres,
and those with the Green Leaf or Olive Leaf classification are considered
to be of a good standard.
Many people now come to Kerala, not only for a holiday, but also for a course of Ayurvedic treatment . Ayurveda,
is often said to be “the knowledge of life”. It assumes the fundamental
sameness of “self and nature”. Ayurvedic theory,
unlike western medical practices where a disease or problem is diagnosed,
and then treated, looks at the “whole patient” as a symbol of
imbalance. It is the imbalance that is treated, not the disease.
Amongst Europeans, many Swiss and Germans are familiar with the Ayurveda, and now many other visitors also are beginning to experience the benefits of this ancient traditional treatment. |
